On July 20, the International Chess Forum Moscow Open 2022 has finished, which was held at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace with the support of the Moscow City Department of Sports.

1000 chess players from 8 countries participated in the tournament, which lasted for a week. 68 regions of Russia were represented. 550 chess players participated in the children’s stage of the Russian Cup, 272 in the men’s stage, and 79 in the women’s.

The Stars’ Tournament was held for the first time as part of the Moscow Open. The winner is Sergei Karjakin, who in the match for first place defeated Alexander Grischuk with a score of 2:1 (playing with black pieces in the decisive Armageddon game).

Third place was taken by Alexander Morozevich, who defeated Anatoly Karpov also in Armageddon, playing with white pieces.

The winner of the men’s stage of the Russian Cup is Vladislav Artemiev, who is ahead of Pavel Ponkratov and Vadim Zvyagintsev in additional indicators.

Baira Kovanova won at the women’s stage of the Russian Cup. The silver medalist is Daria Voit, the bronze medalist is Glafira Usacheva.

girls under 9: Maria Smirnova (Moscow) — 8
boys under 11: Ruslan Gadzhiev (Republic of Dagestan) — 9

On the final day there was an autograph session with Karyakin, Karpov, Grischuk and Morozevich and a simultaneous game session with grandmaster Ernesto Inarkiev.

The Moscow Open 2022 closing ceremony was attended by President of the Moscow Chess Federation Sergey Lazarev and tournament director Artem Akhmetov. They awarded the winners of the tournaments and officially declared the forum closed.

REGULATIONS

Activities for spectators

An extensive program of additional sporting events is planned at Moscow Open 2022:

— blitz tournaments for alumni, children and amateurs,
— handicap tournament,
— competitions in solving chess problems and compositions,
— a session of simultaneous play with a grandmaster.

Everyone will be able to compete in a session with a chess robot playing simultaneously on three chessboards.
Moreover, on July 20, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., a colorful stage performance will be organized.
